Last night President Obama announced a troop escalation in Afghanistan and today actions took place across the U.S. in opposition to his decision to continue war and occupation. In Indianapolis, a few brave souls stood in the rain and cold with signs reading "HONK FOR PEACE IN AFGHANISTAN", "WE DON'T LIKE THE SURGE", "RETHINK AFGHANISTAN" and "BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!"
As we stood at the corner of Fall Creek and Meridian, a major intersection for after work traffic, we heard dozens of honks from sympathetic folks who agreed with our message. In a very conservative place like Indianapolis, it was great to feel the support from those who agree that sending 30,000 more troops and investing billions more in war is wrong.
Thanks to Lori Perdue from CODEPINK, Carl Rising-Moore from Veterans for Peace, Dawn Charbonneau and Carl Smith for being out there in that terrible weather-sending a message of peace in the face of more war.
